Give it to me straight

Hey guys, so here's the deal I've been secretly harboring a desire to get into interior design for a long time, but  I don't want to go back to school and I don't know if I'm at all talented in this arena so I've put together some "virtual rooms" and I really want to hear what you think.  What do you like, what don't you like, and what would you change or are they so awful that only a blind dog would take up residence in one of these rooms?  I have an idea that would allow me to design without going back to school, but first I want to hear the opinions of those I trust the most.  So let me hear it and give it to me straight, there's no point in being nice this time, just be honest.  Click on the pic to get a bigger view then email me or make a comment here on the blog.  Thanks a million!

  1. Is that Amy Butler I see??! Jocelyn! Wow. I'm so impressed, but not surprised. You have always had such great fashion sense. I think this is just AWESOME that you're doing this. I really love the color palette you chose for the first one. And I love the patterns. They add just the right amount of texture to the room, and warms it right up. Your second room is also really nice, I think you did a good job of adding some plants to give the room little sprits of color. Personally out of the three this one is my least favorite, not because of it's design, but because of the color pallette. But that's just me. I like more color. This room feels more serious and older as opposed to the first one that feels fun and young. The third one is also just right up my alley! I love the wall art and chandelier. It feels very Anthropologie-ish. I like that the room isn't perfectly symmetrical and that you've placed a pillow on one chair and a flower vase on one of your end tables and not the other. (I don't know if that makes sense?) I think you've done a great job making all three rooms balanced. Not one side looks too heavy. I don't know anything about interior design, so I'm not the best person to ask an opinion from. But, I do know one thing, All three of your designs are pleasing to the eye and I think you're going places! You need to be on HGTV "First Time Design" Have you ever seen that show?

  2. You are super talented in this area! I was so jealous of your cute apartment when you guys lived here. You have a knack for interior design! I am super impressed the pics you posted! I absolutely loved pics 1 and 3. I'm a huge fan of color and texture and I think you did a great job with that one both of those. I liked number 2, but not as much as the others. Probably because I prefer a brighter, more modern look and that one seemed to be a little more classic in style. I also felt that maybe it was missing something, but I'm not sure what. I think it was good that you did a more classic pic though, because there are many out there that prefer that kind of style. Good job! Let me know if you have specific questions for me. You really are very talented. I want to see more!!!

  3. I am definitely the novice in this area, but I'd live in one of those rooms... when I buy a house you can experiment on it! I like the third one best! I've missed you guys! I'm glad Tennessee is so enjoyable... and I'm really sorry I missed the firefly show!!

  4. You have a great eye for this...keep it up. I would like to see a bit of color splash up on the walls. But that is just me. You've been to our house and you know, I don't know how to decorate so...take this with a grain of salt! All 3 are rather formal in furniture placement. I think variation in placement of furniture might be a bit more inviting. Just maybe, though. Keep this up. If it is an area that you are exploring, you should definitely stay there. You're a great explorer! Loves! Susan Bro.

  5. I think you should go for it!
Love the rooms. The first one is probably most my style but they're all put together really well!

Just found your blog through facebook. Can't wait to see more. :)
